The agony of ultrasound

I am having an ultrasound today to determine more accurately the due date of our precious new baby! I love ultrasounds. I love the glimpse it gives of a living miracle. I love the technology that allows me to see for the first time what no one but God has seen. And I love the fact that ultrasounds testify to the life and validity of the unborn.

But in the midst of this love is angst. They require the patient to drink 5-8 glasses of water before an ultrasound. Men cannot understand this agony to the fullest degree. A burgeoning bladder, a growing uterus, and an ultrasound wand pressing down on the abdomen make for some of the most miserable moments I've ever experienced.

Love is born of suffering.
